The following policies are in place to ensure an environment for Scouts and the troop that encourages

Troop 883 Costs & Financials

Unfortunately, Scouting is not free.
Uniforms, books, badges, patches, awards, gear, campgrounds, rechartering fees and dues are just some of the many necessities of Scouting that cost money.

Each Scout family has a ‘Scout Account’ into which funds may be deposited and from which those costs are paid or reimbursed for. Funds accumulate directly from fundraising or deposits.

The cost of Scouting may not be financially feasible for each Scout. Please contact our Committee Chair if you need assistance and more information about our Campership Fund and qualifications.

Required Fees and Dues

Rechartering BSA fees, possibly adjusted from year to year:

  • Annual BSA Fee (required): $60
  • Annual BSA Insurance Fee (required): $4
  • Boys Life Magazine (optional): $12

Quarterly Dues, deducted Mar 31, Jun 30, Sep 30, & Dec 31:

  • $25 (required)

As part of our annual recharter process and a benefit to our adult leaders, Troop 883 pays the recharter costs for all active adult leaders. In order to be considered active, the leaders must:

  • Committee Chair/Committee Members
    • Regularly attend Troop Committee meetings
    • Be assigned a specific leadership position – and complete the requirements of that position
    • Regularly participate in Troop fundraising events
  • Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmasters
    • Regularly attend Troop meetings and outings
    • Be assigned a specific leadership position – and complete the requirements of that position
    • Regularly participate in Troop fundraising events

In the event the adult leader does not meet the requirements of an active leader, we simply ask that he/she pay his/her own recharter fees in order to be rechartered as a member of the Troop.

Other Misc. Costs

Costs which get deducted automatically or may be reimbursed from the Scout Account include the following:

  • Uniforms and gear
  • Camp outs, including campsite, food, etc.
  • Summer camp
  • High adventures
  • Admission fees during Scout activities
  • Scout-specific or related training
Fundraising Opportunities

Troop 883 offers ongoing, regular fundraisers and annual fundraisers.
Money from fundraising goes directly into Scout accounts ONLY if:

  • The Scout or family of the Scout participates in the fundraising, OR
  • Fundraising donations or profits are designated to the Scout

Additionally, Scouts may earn service hours for participation in fundraising when approved by the troop.

  • Martin’s Cards  Details and Signup
    5% of the value of Martin’s grocery gift cards purchased goes into your Scout account.
  • Pancake Breakfasts
    Troop 883 hosts pancake breakfasts before, during and after Sunday Masses at St. Joseph’s. Dates and signup opportunities will be posted as they occur.
  • Camper Cards
    Cards provide discounts to restaurants and retailers – profits from cards bought or sold by the Scouting family go into the Scout account.
  • Poinsettia Fundraiser
    Troop 883 solicits orders for and hand-delivers a variety and different sizes of poinsettias during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. Dates and signup posted near the start. Annual and the largest fundraiser for Scouts and the troop.
