Troop 883 Safety Policies

The following policies are in place to ensure an environment for Scouts and the troop that encourages
*** fun, learning, advancement, responsibility, equality and safety. ***
Parents and Scouts must adhere to them as appropriate.

Safety Policies

Troop 883 adheres to  BSA’s Guide to Safe Scouting, Youth Protection, and Scouting best practices. Adults and Scouts must adhere to these policies as they apply. Troop 883 endorses and enforces:

  • BSA health form compliance for activities
  • Age-appropriate activity participation
  • Youth Protection, Certifications, and Training
  • Totin’ Chip for for Youths using Knives or Tools
  • Firemn’ Chit for Youths managing Campfires

All registered adults in the troop must have both BSA Youth Protection Training and the Catholic Youth Protection- Virtus. To complete the BSA YPT, go to my.scouting.com and complete the training. Submit your training certificate to the Scoutmaster. BSA Youth Protection must be completed every year.

For VIRTUS training, go to https://virtusonline.org/virtus/. Be sure to select the Archdiocese of Baltimore and Saint Joseph, Eldersburg when you register. Be sure to download a copy of the certificate as this is not available once you leave the web page. Send a copy of the certificate to the Scoutmaster. VIRTUS training is good for 5 years.

Scouts 14 and older
All youth who are 14 and older must complete Worthy of the Call training, submit an application and references. Please contact the Scoutmaster for more information.

BSA Health Form Compliance

Participation in any and all Scouting activities requires the BSA Annual Health and Medical Record, parts A & B, including any parent/guardian, siblings, youth, staff, and troop leader. Part C is required for special events, high adventures, and activities lasting longer than 72 hours and requires a pre-participation physical.

The AHMR should be turned into the Scoutmaster. Forms A, B, & C and special versions should be turned into the Scout leader for the associated activity.
