Troop 883 Participation Policies

The following policies are in place to ensure an environment for Scouts and the troop that encourages
*** fun, learning, advancement, responsibility, equality and safety. ***
Parents and Scouts must adhere to them as appropriate.

Participation

Our success and the Scouts’ ability to learn, practice, advance, and have fun hinges on participation. We encourage parents and Scouts to participate regularly and contribute to planning and participate in activities often.

To help ensure this, Troop 883 suggests the following minimum participation in activities for both adults and Scouts. We can always use help and appreciate volunteers.

Parent/Legal Guardian Participation Guidelines

At least one or both parents/guardians should combine to try these. This ensures that parents understand how Scouting and Troop 883 works, are aware of events, and equips them to better encourage and engage their Scout.

  • Attend at least one committee meeting per 6 months, per year.
  • Volunteer for two different fundraising activities per year
  • Attend at least one non-overnight outing per year
  • Attend at least one over-night outing per year
  • Attend at all Court of Honors each year
  • Attend at least two regular Scout meetings per year
Scout Participation Requirements

BSA rank and award requirements include active participation in meetings and outings, as well as service hours. To encourage troop and patrol participation, youth Scouts must meet these additional requirements:

  • Attend at least three troop meetings per quarter
  • Attend at least two Court of Honors per year
  • Attend at least one non-overnight outing per year
  • Attend at least one SPLC meeting per year (non-leadership Scouts)
  • Attend at least three SPLC meetings per year (Patrol Leaders and above)
