Knots & Lashings
Knots and lashings are especially useful for the outdoors (such as tying poles or ropes together, securing a tripod, or creating and tightening the tension on a gig for a tent stake, or a rescue). Like many skills, practice makes perfect, and continued practice means you won’t forget.
Scouts must learn to tie nine basic knots as part of advancement.
- Bowline
- Clove Hitch
- Clove Hitch (Series of Half Hitches) Over an Open-Ended Pole
- Lark’s Head
- Sheepshank
- Sheet Bend
- Square Knot
- Taut-line Hitch
- Timber Hitch
- Two Half Hitches
