Getting Ready for Summer Camp

hsrmisc1-1Camp Horseshoe has been a summer camp for over 90 years.

We will sleep in a three sided Adirondack on bunk beds with a mattress. Label everything with scout’s name. These work great: Avery Writable Labels

What to Bring to Camp:

CLOTHING AND BEDDING – Put clothing in gallon ziplock bags. Store in a footlocker or sturdy plastic tote. No suitcases.

  • Shorts and/or pants (6), Troop tee shirts, Class A Uniform (will wear everyday at camp for dinner)
  • Daily change of underwear and socks
  • Bathing Suit
  • Raincoat and/or poncho
  • Hiking Boots
  • Pajamas
  • Sweater and/or light Jacket
  • Sneakers
  • Sleeping Bag or Sheets and a light blanket
  • Pillow (if desired)
  • Water shoes (can be old sneakers that can get wet and closed toe)

TOILET ARTICLES

  • Hand Towel
  • Toothbrush and Toothpaste
  • Bath Towels (2) One for shower and One for the pool.
  • Washcloths (2)
  • Comb, Brush
  • Soap in container
  • Shower shoes (rubber flip flops)

MUSTS FOR A HAPPY STAY

  • Knife, Fork, Spoon and plate (Thursday we eat in at camp)
  • Water Bottle
  • Flashlight, Extra Batteries
  • Book
  • Pen, Pencil, Paper
  • Compass
  • Knapsack/Daypack
  • Individual First Aid Kit (bandaids etc. There is one for 99 cents at Walmart in the travel section. Add tweezers and blister protection for First Aid merit badge.)
  • Camera & film (single use camera’s work GREAT!)
  • Hammock (Many of the older scouts sleep in a hammock. The ones from W-M are fine. Bring a way to hang it. Sturdy carabiners!)
